YOUTH WORKSHOPS
Youth workshops are back! Led by our Humane Educator, students will learn about a wide range of animal-related topics! The goal of these workshops complements our mission to inspire, grow, and lead with compassion and respect toward animals, people, and the environment. The activities, crafts, and lessons will vary based on age group and topic for each workshop.
Continue below for a brief description and age groups of the workshops we currently offer!
Each workshop is from 10 am to 4 pm at the Fredericksburg SPCA.
Love & Kindness: Keeping our Furry Friends Happy
For ages 6-9
Our beginning workshop is designed to gently introduce the tenets of companion animal care and respect to our youngest ambassadors. Join us for interactive lessons, activities, and visits with some furry friends of the shelter to learn how to show compassion and respect towards all animals.
Junior Animal Professionals
For ages 6-9 and ages 10-13
Explore various jobs that allow you to work with animals every day! Meet a veterinarian professional from our Locke Community Medical Center and practice saving your favorite (stuffed) animal’s life! Learn animal behaviors from our CACTP certified trainer, participate in fun role-playing activities, and experience the duties of shelter staff members while interacting with some of our friendly animals at the SPCA!
Safety & Respect: Body Language of Canines and Felines
For ages 10-13
In this workshop, you’ll become an expert in reading the body language of both people and animals, safe engagement with animals, daily enrichment methods, and training for our pets. Not only will you discover key behaviors of dogs and cats, but also create homemade toys and treats, and meet with shelter animals and staff to gain a deeper understanding of pet companionship!
