Join the Animal Allies Academy, an engaging program designed for kids ages 6-9 & 10-12 who are eager to learn about life at an animal shelter! Kids enrolled in the Animal Allies Academy will meet on Saturdays from 10 am - 12 pm for 4 weeks. This program will be held at the Fredericksburg SPCA, where your child will get one-on-one interaction with animals! Participants will discover the importance of animal care, shelter etiquette, and responsible pet ownership through hands-on experiences and interactive activities.
Starting in September, sessions will shift to a four-hour format once per month.

Monthly Themes:
March: Kitten season & fostering fun – Campers will make cozy DIY blankets, learn how to care for young kittens, and understand the importance of fostering to help save lives.
April: Animal care & advocacy – Focus on caring for puppies and kittens, create comfort items for shelter animals, and assemble welcome kits for new adopters while learning about shelter life.
May: Pet safety & summer prep – Explore ways to keep pets cool and safe in the heat with fun projects like making frozen treats, designing custom collars, and creating pet-friendly summer gear.
September: Breeds & spay/neuter awareness – Learn about different dog breeds and stigmas, why spay/neuter programs matter, and create enrichment toys to keep shelter pets engaged and happy.
October: Adoption awareness – Discover why choosing shelter pets is so important, help with shelter cleaning, make DIY pumpkin treats, and design posters advocating for adoption.
November: Gratitude & giving – Show appreciation by creating donation packages, crafting enrichment toys for animals, and working together on a “Thank You” collage for shelter staff and volunteers.
December: Holiday cheer – Spread joy by making holiday ornaments, stockings, and DIY gifts for adopters, while participating in festive activities to brighten the shelter for the season.
