Spring Break Camp

March 24th-March 28th
Session A: ages 10-13 | Session B: ages 6-9

Spring break Compassionate Care Camp is a chance for kids to dive into the rescue process, learn about animal behavior through hands-on science activities, and express their creativity through art projects! Campers practice kindness and responsibility by helping with shelter tasks, and gain a deeper understanding of fostering and adoption. With a mix of games, art, and time spent with animals, the camp encourages empathy and teamwork while preparing for a Talent Show to showcase all their hard work and love for animals. Each day has a different theme and is jam packed with fun activities for the animal-loving kid(s) in your life!

*Our facility will be closed on Friday, July 4th, 2025. Sensory week is tailored for campers who thrive in sensory-friendly settings. Enjoy quiet animal sessions, soothing sensory bins, calming crafts, mindfulness activities, and more!

Cat Week – Get ready for a week full of feline fun! Campers will create enrichment toys, build cozy hideouts for shelter cats, and learn how to read cat body language. They’ll spend time helping shelter cats feel comfortable and engaged while also enjoying games and activities. Special themed days like Pajama Day and a hands-on science experiment will add extra excitement to the week.

Dog Week – It’s all about dogs this week! Campers will make interactive puzzle toys for shelter dogs, create cool splash zone activities to keep pups (and themselves) cool in the summer, and learn the do’s and don’ts of meeting a new pup. Outdoor relay races and teamwork challenges will keep everyone active, and fun theme days like Crazy Hat Day will make the week even more memorable.

Shelter Jobs Week – Ever wonder what it takes to run an animal shelter? Campers will step into the shoes of shelter staff, from animal caregivers to adoption counselors. They’ll create bios for adoptable pets, design their own dream animal shelter, and try their hand at real-life shelter tasks like prepping enrichment treats and organizing supplies. Outdoor team games and hands-on activities, like making DIY items to highlight the shelter, will bring the experience to life.

Foster & Adopt Week – Discover how fostering and adoption change lives! Campers will hear inspiring pet adoption stories and take part in a "Rescue to Home" simulation, where they’ll learn the journey of a pet from intake to adoption. They’ll decorate adoption welcome kits for new pet families and create adoption-themed artwork to display in the shelter. The week will also include outdoor games, a science experiment, and a fun theme day like Mix-and-Match Outfit Day, ending with a heartwarming adoption celebration.

Compassionate Care Camp Cancellation and Refund Policy: Camp participants requesting a refund and/or withdrawing from the program must contact the Fredericksburg SPCA Humane Education Department. Individuals requesting a cancellation must follow up their verbal request with a written cancellation and/or refund request and submit it to Fredericksburg SPCA, Humane Education Department before cancellation deadlines. Cancellation requests less than 14 days before the camp start date are eligible for a 50% refund. There are no refunds on cancellations less than one week (7 days) before the camp start date. There will be no refunds given to those who withdraw after the camp start date. A 10% administrative fee will be charged on all refund requests falling within the cancellation deadlines.
