Compassionate Care Camp inspires children to learn about animals, empathy, and responsible care through fun, hands-on activities and safe, supervised animal interactions. Camps are designed for ages 6–9 and ages 10–12, with activities tailored to each age group.
After selecting your camp and entering your contact and camper information, click the ‘Summary’ button to proceed to the summary page. On that page, just below the summary description and above the box with your completed information, there is a small pink button that says “Click here to enter discount code.” You’ll enter your code there. Fall & Winter Half-Day Camps
Animal Adventurers – Get ready to explore the world of animals! Campers will enjoy themed games, hands-on crafts like animal passports or journals, and safe observation of shelter cats and dogs. Special activities include enrichment projects and interactive lessons about animal behavior and care.
Animal Discovery Days – Two days of adventure and learning! Campers will tackle challenges and team-based games, create animal-themed crafts, and participate in enrichment activities with shelter pets. Reflection time will help campers think about ways they can care for animals in their community.
Winter Wildlife Wonders – Celebrate winter with fun animal activities! Campers will explore seasonal animal behaviors, create themed crafts, and engage in interactive lessons and safe shelter observation. Team games and enrichment activities keep the excitement high.
Kindness to Animals Week – Focused on empathy and compassion, campers will participate in interactive lessons, craft projects, and safe animal engagement. Indoor and outdoor activities emphasize teamwork, creativity, and learning about pet care and welfare.
Spring and Summer Camps
Spring Break Camp – Kindness Counts – One day camps focused on empathy and compassion, with kindness-based games, crafts, and projects like the Paws for Kindness Wall. Daily hands-on time with shelter pets reinforces how small actions make a big difference.
Dog Week – Learn about dog care, behavior, and communication through fun enrichment activities, games, and hands-on exercises. Group projects help adoptable dogs while building teamwork and confidence.
Cat Week – Explore feline behavior, body language, and enrichment through interactive lessons, crafts, and time with adoptable cats. Activities encourage compassion and problem-solving skills.
Kindness Counts Week – Continue the focus on empathy and compassion with interactive lessons, craft projects, and shelter pet engagement. Team games and hands-on activities show how small acts can make a big impact.
Shelter Roles Week – Step behind the scenes to learn about shelter jobs, from animal care to adoptions and community outreach. Campers participate in mock exercises, enrichment projects, and hands-on activities.
Mini Camp – Beyond the Backyard – A two-day adventure exploring wildlife and outdoor animals, including a trip to the Smithsonian Zoo, a park visit, and perhaps a few special guests at the shelter. Hands-on lessons and enrichment activities expand understanding of animals beyond the home.
Compassionate Care Camp Cancellation and Refund Policy: Due to the nature of the program and the limited number of spaces available, the Fredericksburg SPCA is unable to offer refunds for camp cancellations. We understand that unexpected situations can arise, and while refunds are not available, we are happy to work with families to transfer a registration to another available day/week whenever possible. For questions or to request a transfer, please contact education@fredspca.org.
